A Scent that Lifts

Airwick

Giving Air Wick the lightest of VFX touches with Havas & Papaya.

The vision for this new film from Havas and Papaya’s Jim Weedon for RB’s Air Wick titled “A Scent That Lifts” was to create a living room slowly and majestically brought-to-life by the uplifting, ethereal scent of Air Wick Scented Oil warmers.

Havas Creative Team, Phillip Lecorgne & Maria Skarlatou, reflect that “from the really simple elements like the colour palette, down to the extremely intricate CGI wisps, it took lots of time and perseverance in R&D to strike the perfect balance we were all aiming for but the end result was so satisfying and so beautifully crafted... From the very start of the project, Jim, the team at Havas and everyone at Absolute really wanted to create a sense of bliss within the ad and we knew that was going to be accomplished in post-production”.

Having VFX Supervisor Ben on set meant that everyone felt confident and reassured that all plates had been captured for the necessary isolation that we would need to work on to gain complete control over the timings of the lavender, the guitar, the sofa, the lamp, even the dog’s ear! This allowed the VFX team to carefully choreograph each element in tune to the rest of film.

It was then over to Lead VFX Artist, Scott Simmonds and his team who explains how they were “tasked with creating an elegant representation of the AirWick "essential oil warmed fragrance"and it allowed us to get creative with how this was approached. It was a great collaboration between Houdini, Maya and Nuke, using a combination of particles, fx and live action greenscreen footage to create these beautiful and subtle moments”
